Might as well get one in before Oppositelock goes away

After Driving my buddies hot rodded VW Golf turbo lowered chipped etc etc etc I decided to get a BMW. Led down the path by Jalopnik I bought a 2001 BMW 525it Wagon. I fixed all the problems on that, cooling system, subframe bushings, throttle body, CCV. Wanted something better with lots of depreciation and lots of car for not a lot of Money.

Bored at work one day I threw a low ball Bid on this and won the Auction.

Now the E31 is notorious for being expensive and this one was cheap. Transmission work was mandatory, Interior bits and pieces and unknown code from a car I never inspected etc.

I’m sorry...did you really get an 850 for $3k?  Amazing find, and great job restoring it.

Working on $ 15K. Plus my labor. Bonus is with the mileage it already has it is not a garage queen. 10K miles on it since I bought it.

but if you’d bought one for 18k it’d still probably have a lot of these issues anyways, right?

Likely not as many since it would have had fewer miles, but a lot of the problems are age related, fuel lines, rubber pieces etc etc. A lot of its problems were deferred maintenance which is why you can get them cheap, people run into problems with no easy solution and dump them

Wow. Hat tip to you. If I had $15k for my 7 I’d be able to finish fixing everything, do all my mods and still probably have some left over to get my ‘95 running. Either way, cool project. Good to see another golden era BMW get saved.
